Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta said he would form a new Cabinet by the end of 2012 following his Social Liberal Union party's victory in the Dec. 9 parliamentary elections, Bloomberg reported Dec. 10. The Social Liberal Union won 58.6 percent of the vote, according to Romania's Central Electoral Commission. Ponta added that he would work with ethnic Hungarians in Romania to build a parliamentary supermajority. Political infighting prevented Romania from addressing a number of key foreign policy issues in 2012.
