The prime minister of Equatorial Guinea, Candido Muatetema Rivas, accused Gabon on March 12 of illegally occupying Mbagne Island, which lies just north of Gabon's capital of Libreville in the oil-rich Gulf of Guinea. Muatetema Rivas called on Gabon to withdraw a military contingent stationed on the 74-acre island.
