United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahayan has said that his government supports allowing the U.S.-appointed Iraq Governing Council to assume Baghdad's seat in the Arab League, the official Abu Dhabi al Ittihad newspaper reported Aug. 28. The IGC has been invited to send a representative to the Sept. 9-10 Arab League summit in Cairo, with the stipulation that he would not be allowed to attend discussions that did not center on Iraq. A few days earlier, Jordanian officials said they would "work with" the ICG, even though Jordan would not officially recognize the council.
