Former Venezuelan Defense Minister Gen. Raul Isaias Baduel claimed July 21 that he was targeted in an assassination attempt while driving from Maracay, 50 miles west of Caracas, to the Venezuelan capital. According to El Universal, Baduel showed up at the attorney general’s office early July 21 to report the attack. He claimed that he was on his way to participate in a morning opinion talk show when two cars, at least one of which was a Toyota Yaris, pulled up beside him and a passenger started firing a handgun. Three bullets reportedly hit the rear part of Baduel’s vehicle, but he apparently escaped unharmed.
