As the foreign ministers of NATO’s member countries met in Brussels, Belgium, on March 6 to discuss membership expansion, Ukraine — one of the countries on NATO’s list — came out with a statement backtracking on its plans to pursue membership. Ukraine’s Council of the Coalition of Democratic Forces — which is made up of the parties ruling the government — issued a decree that will be sent to parliament and then to NATO stating that Kiev wants more time to consider “relations” with NATO and membership prospects.
