Political turmoil in Zimbabwe, combined with the essential monopoly De Beers holds on diamond prospecting in Botswana and Namibia, is forcing diamond mining companies to look elsewhere in Africa to meet their growth strategies, sources in the mining sector told Stratfor on April 10. Angola, the Central African Republic (CAR) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are likely to become leading contenders for future investment — though mining in those countries is not without risk.
