The Nigerian government hopes to hold a Niger Delta summit in June aimed at bringing together stakeholders in the region’s energy sector, though no fixed date has been set, sources told Stratfor on May 9. The summit would likely include groups such as energy companies, community and militant group representatives, and government officials at the federal, state and local levels. A summit of this kind has been on the books since the inauguration of Umaru Yaradua as Nigeria’s president in May 2007, but has been delayed repeatedly.
