Kuwaiti authorities Jan. 15 continued to investigate an incident in which unknown vandals damaged about a dozen or so bookstores carrying Salafist literature in al-Muthanna Street in the Hawla area. The assailants reportedly smashed down the bookstores’ front windows and doors and threw rotten eggs at them. Apparently nothing was stolen from the bookstores, and no other shops in the area were targeted. After the incident, Interior Minister Sheikh Jaber al-Khaled said the perpetrators were a “fifth column” targeting the country’s national unity.
