President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) traveled to the eastern town of Goma on Jan. 15 to attend peace talks aimed at resolving conflict in the country’s mineral-rich North Kivu province. The absence from the talks of Tutsi rebel Gen. Laurent Nkunda will mean that no breakthrough ending the conflict will occur, however.
