Cote d’Ivoire’s Coffee and Cocoa Exchange launched a strike Dec. 4, and the work stoppage continued Dec. 5. Negotiations between the exchange — a private agency responsible for regulating the marketing and export of cocoa and coffee — and the Ivorian government’s Coffee and Cocoa Regulatory Authority are expected to begin Dec. 6. Three-quarters of the country’s roughly $4 billion cocoa crop is produced during an October-to-January harvest season, and December is the peak month of the year.
