Since the 9/11 attacks, security at the Olympics and other major events has been a major issue. Ahead of the upcoming Olympics in Beijing, China has been tightening security and seems dead-set on handling all security issues itself.
However, armed Israeli security agents have accompanied Israeli athletes during past Olympics, specifically to prevent a repeat of the 1972 massacre by the Palestinian Black September Organization at the Munich Olympics. It is not in China’s best security interests to allow foreign agents to operate within the country, but in the case of the Israelis during the Olympics, Beijing might have to make an exception.
