Chadian warplanes conducted a cross-border attack against rebels in Sudan, according to Jan. 8 media reports. While the Chadian air campaign probably will not be sustained, continued rebel operations across the shared, porous border will ensure tensions between the two countries remain high.
Chadian government spokesman Hourmadji Moussa Doumgor acknowledged that two airstrikes occurred Jan. 6-7 against camps at Goker and Wadi Radi, both of which are about 15 miles south of the Darfuri town of El Geneina. Both camps also are located about 15 miles inside the Sudanese border.
