Bolivian president Evo Morales on May 18 threatened to nationalize Bolivian natural gas fields. In his announcement, Morales said that if foreign energy companies in Bolivia do not invest nearly $900 million in natural gas development in 2008 in conjunction with the central government, La Paz will consider the companies to be in violation of their agreements and confiscate the natural gas fields.
